String Teacher Biographies
Over the past 20 years, Musical Expressions has established a reputation for excellent string lessons. We currently teach Cello Lessons, Violin Lessons, Viola Lessons and String Bass Lesson. We continually receive referrals from happy parents, past and present students, fellow teachers, music stores and local area colleges. Katie Joy Heise

Katie Joy Heise began her formal study of the violin at the age of six.  She became an orchestral and chamber musician at an early age, winning numerous competitions as well as winning opportunities to participate in selective music festivals and chamber programs across the United States. She joined the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra while in high school, where she performed at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Center.  Miss Heise continued her studies at Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University studying with Cyrus Forough and Teresa Fream where she earned her Bachelor’s in Violin Performance; she is currently earning her Masters in Violin Performance from Northern Illinois University, studying with Blaise Magniere.  Miss Heise has maintained an active freelance career in the Chicaoland area and has collaborated with artists such as Dr. David Schrader. Miss Heise has also served as a judicator for the Illinois Music Educators Association State Honors Orchestra.  She has been afforded opportunities to study with world-renown soloists, which have taken her across the United States and Europe.  Prior to joining the faculty at Musical Expressions, Miss Heise has taught violin independently in the Glen Ellyn area for 10 years.  Katie teaches both violin and viola to students ages 7- adult.

Mary McGinty
 
 
  Mary McGinty cello
 

Mary’s primary teacher was Robert Swenson of the notable Walden Quartet, and professor of cello at the University of Illinois, Urbana campus, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance.  For one year she trained under Eleanor Slatkin of the famed Hollywood Quartet and mother of renowned conductor Leonard Slatkin. 

For approximately 12 years she played with the New Mexico Symphony which regularly hosted international solo names such as James Galway, Andre Watts, Leontyne Price, Lynn Harell, Pepe Romero, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and a multitude of others.

Yoshimi Takeda, a protégé of George Szell, was the very fine conductor there for most of her tenure. Additional conductors in her experience include Robert Shaw, Raymond Leppard, Jaime Laredo, Hugh Wolf, and Margaret Hillis as well as others.

She has performed with a variety of commercial venues, including Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, the Dallas Ballet, and the like. For 3 years she performed with the Santa Fe Opera for the Richard Strauss enlarged orchestra. She also managed a string quartet which performed for various functions.
